Encouraging the Natural way to enjoy a holiday

February 6, 2007 - Yorkshire Post Business

A holiday company set up to target the green holiday market is hoping to roll out the concept of environmentally friendly holiday lodges nation wide.

Natural Retreats has been set up to develop a number of new sites across the UK.

The company has been formed by a group of individuals including members of the Spence family who originally set up Ecobuild UK.

Ecobuild, which has now dissolved, recently completed work on ten holiday homes at Aislabeck, near Richmond.

The homes have a host of environmentally sensitive features, and have been constructed in a combination of glass and cedar wood using the very latest in green building techniques.

Natural Retreats says it is looking to acquire and develop three new sites in brown field locations close to market towns, in areas of outstanding natural beauty with good communication links.

Simon Spence, one of the founders of Ecobuild UK, said: "Ecobuild was established to develop a specific site here in Richmond, which has now been completed.

"We always hoped that the lodge design could become a blueprint for other developments and Natural Retreats provides us with an ideal opportunity to move the projects on to a larger scale.

"The formation of Natural Retreats is the next stage in the process to take this concept to a wider audience.

"There has been real upsurge of interest in sustainable tourism and we believe that these lodge-style eco-holidays will be very popular."
